What e-books are available from Britannica?

Britannica offers hundreds of full-color and black-and-white nonfiction and circulating reference e-books, ranging from pre-K to academic. All of the e-books offered on our site are published by Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc., and Britannica Educational Publishing (in collaboration with Rosen Educational Services). Although Britannica’s popular encyclopedias, the Encyclopædia Britannica and Compton’s by Britannica, are not available as e-books, they are available through our Britannica School, Britannica Online Academic Edition, and Britannica Online Public Library Edition subscription databases. How will students and library patrons find Britannica e-books and the content in them?

Complete MARC records accompany all of the Britannica e-books, enabling schools and libraries to integrate them in their digital card catalog or federated search system. The Britannica e-book site also provides full-text searching across the entire library of e-books.

Are MARC records available?

Yes. Marc Records are provided free of charge and can be downloaded (in .mrc or machine-readable format) once you have logged in to your Britannica e-book account. These MARC records can be easily integrated into a digital card catalog. Some MARC records may require customization depending on your library’s management systems.

Are usage stats provided on the Britannica e-book site?

Yes, usage stats are provided to school and library administrators.

How many users can access an e-book at the same time?

All of the e-books on the Britannica e-book site can be purchased either with single-user access or for an unlimited number of simultaneous users.

Is remote access available?

Yes, remote access to the Britannica e-book platform can be configured during the purchasing process.

What authentication options are available for accessing Britannica e-books?

Authentication into the Britannica e-book site can be done via Username/Password, IP Address, or Referral URL. Schools and libraries can choose their preferred method of authentication upon purchase.

Online reading is supported for titles that are available in EPUB format.
Offline reading is supported for all titles and requires a one-time download of the iPublishCentral Reader App.

Online reading is supported on 7" and 10" Android tablets and Kindle Fire for titles that are available in EPUB format.
Offline reading is supported on 7" and 10" Android tablets and requires a one-time download of the iPublishCentral Reader App. (Offline reading on Kindle and Nook is not supported.)

Can Britannica e-books be read offline (downloaded)?

All Britannica e-books can be read offline on a PC/Mac, iPad, or Android tablets.

What is the Bookshelf?

The Bookshelf is the collection of Britannica e-books that have been purchased by a school or library.

How do I search inside a particular e-book?

Open an e-book and enter a word or phrase in the search box within the reader.

Can I conduct a search across all of the e-books on the Britannica e-book site?

Yes, you can do either a keyword search or a title search across all of the e-books on the Britannica e-book site by using the search box at the top of the page. You can also do a keyword search within a single e-book title by opening the e-book and entering a keyword in the reader interface.

Can I add notes, highlights, and bookmarks to an e-book?

Yes, all of the e-books on the Britannica e-book site allow readers to create personal notes and highlights on any page and/or bookmark any page. Log in to your My Folder account to save and access personal notes and bookmarks.

Can I print out an e-book?

Yes, 100% of the pages of every e-book on the Britannica e-book site can be printed out on a page-by-page basis. Simply click the print icon at the top of any page.

How do I cite an e-book?

Citation information is available on the book details page for each Britannica e-book.

In order to read Britannica e-books online, an Internet connection (preferably with a broadband connection) and any one of the following internet browsers are required:

I am having trouble logging in to the Britannica e-book site. What should I do?

How do I order Britannica e-books?

To order Britannica e-books, either:

1. Go to ebooks.eb.com and add one or more e-books to the shopping cart by clicking the Add to Cart button. When you are done shopping, submit your purchase order, and a Britannica sales representative will contact you within 24 hours to complete your order, enable access, and answer any questions you may have.

2. Contact a Britannica Sales Representative directly at 1-800-621-3900 or contact@eb.com.
